Spotlighting Recreation in the NWT: Bright Spots!

Bright Spots turn our attention to what organizations and communities are doing well. They celebrate innovation and success in recreation and on the land programming in the NWT. Each year, we welcome up to four presenters from around the territory to tell us about their inspiring program or event.

We're looking for organizations in the NWT that have seen particular success with or positive responses to one of their recreation-related initiatives (programs, events, etc.). We will choose three or four organizations to present during the Bright Spots on the evening of October 19, 2021 in Sǫ̀mba K'è / Yellowknife.

Organizations are encouraged to nominate their owns programs!

Our 2020 Bright Spots was presented completely virtually, due to the necessary COVID-19 precautions. The presentations included the Dark Sky Festival, The 2020 Fun Run/Walk Challenge, and the Western Arctic Youth Collective. These programs showed their strength and resilience by finding alternate ways to continue with their programming during a challenging time in which recreation has become even more vital to peoples’ health and wellbeing.

Nominate a Bright Spot!

We’ll bet you’re thinking of an amazing program that could inspire other regions, communities, and organizations! Nominate them to share their Bright Spot with recreation and on the land leaders across the NWT! This year we will be celebrating with a dinner on the first night of our NWTRPA Annual Conference.

The chosen presenters will prepare and deliver a 15-minute presentation (provided to the NWTRPA the week before the conference). The deadline to submit a nomination is September 10, 2021.
