About the NWT Recreation and Parks Association
The NWT Recreation and Parks Association (NWTRPA) is a non-profit organization that works with communities across the NWT to promote a healthy and active lifestyle.
Our mission is “to increase public awareness of recreation and parks and to enhance the quality of life of residents in the NWT by promoting and supporting the development of recreation, parks services and leadership throughout the North".
Our primary focus is to provide leadership and support and services to NWT communities, volunteers in recreation, and recreation professionals.
The NWT Recreation and Parks Association is a leading partner in the NWT Recreation & Sport Delivery System. The Association is run by a volunteer Board of Directors. We deliver a wide variety of programs and services through the development of innovative partnerships and a variety of funding arrangements.
Our Objectives Are:
1. To foster the growth and development of effective and adequately resourced recreation and community parks services in the NWT;
2. To promote public awareness and support for recreation and park services as they relate to constructive use of leisure;
3. To improve the level of communication and interaction between individuals involved in the recreation and parks field in the Northwest Territories;
4. To provide recreation and parks educational opportunities for volunteers and professional practitioners; and
5. To provide input into public policy for recreation and parks development and services.
