Elders in Motion Facilitator Training

This Facilitator Training is a two-day workshop that will provide participants with the skills and knowledge to instruct and teach the Active Living Exercise Program Leader course and the Functional Fitness for Falls Prevention course.

Active Living Exercise Program:

This course is for those who are interested in instructing, encouraging, and monitoring 10 simple and progressive exercises. The exercises were designed to enhance and maintain the functional fitness, mobility, balance, and independence of Elders.  Topics include: frailty, learned helplessness, ageism, and functional mobility. Participants also learn how to develop a community recreation program or work with elders in a home care setting.

Functional Fitness for Falls Prevention:

This workshop is designed to help those who work with older adults improve their programming. Topics covered in the training include: safety, managing risks, gait, fall risk assessments, exercise guidelines, specific exercise suggestions, and program planning. NWT-specific falls information has been added to this course. It also includes an additional half day of practice and mentoring.


  • Supervisor support;
  • University degree (in a health-related field);
  • Three years of experience in their field of practice;
  • Teaching or facilitation experience; and
  • Comfort facilitating.

Where: 3rd Floor of the Don Cooper Building, Yellowknife

Snacks: Limited snacks will be provided.                

Who should attend? People in leadership roles who feel confident facilitating workshops for those who work in the health or recreation field.

Cancellation Policy:

If you need to cancel your registration, the NWTRPA must be notified of the cancellation by email. Cancellation charges will be effective from the date and time we receive email notification as follows:

  • Before 3 days of workshop date – 85% refund
  • Within 24 hours of workshop date – No refund


The NWT Recreation and Parks Association reserves the right to cancel any program or workshop. If such a situation arises you will be notified as soon as possible (by email or phone call). As a result of such a cancellation, you will be refunded all monies paid.

To be considered fully registered we require 100% payment.
