The NWT Recreation and Parks Association (NWTRPA) Walk to Tuk has been selected as one of six finalists in the Play Exchange and will be showcased on a national television show in January 2015 and eligible for up to $1 million to launch the challenge nationwide.
The Play Exchange is a national online challenge that was launched in February 2014 to find and support creative ideas to get Canadians living healthier lifestyles. All Canadians were encouraged to submit their ideas for a healthier Canada, including schools, students, families, as well as not-for-profit organizations, social enterprises and businesses. The Play Exchange is funded, in part by the government of Canada and supported by Canadian Tire, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and LIFT Philanthropy Partners.
- The Walk to Tuk was chosen out of over 400 submissions from across Canada
- The top six finalist each receive mentoring and support from LIFT Philanthropy Partners to develop a strategic business plan for their idea (valued at $30,000).
- The Walk to Tuk will be featured on a CBC television special in January 2015.
- Canadian will then have the chance to choose the winner by voting online for what they think is the best idea.
“Walk to Tuk is NWT’s biggest physical activity event. Walk to Tuk participants are more active on average than what the Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines recommend. This is an exciting opportunity to share this made in the NWT event with the rest of Canada. We are super excited and can’t wait to get started.” said Geoff Ray, Executive Director of the NWTRPA.
