Awards

The NWT Recreation and Parks Association awards dedicated recreation professionals and volunteers in northern communities for their continuing efforts and achievements in promoting recreation and active living for all northerners. These awards are given out at the Awards Banquet at our Annual Conference.

Honorary Life Membership –Honours a member who has made an outstanding contribution to the recreation and parks field and who has served the NWT Recreation and Parks Association for a minimum of 10 years. This award may recognize individuals or organizations. (2007 Winner: Max Hall, Yellowknife)

Award of Merit –Honours an individual who has significantly contributed to recreation and/or parks development in the NWT. The Award of Merit recognizes achievement at the community, regional, territorial, and/or national level. (2007 Winner - Bob White, Hay River)

Facility Maintainers Award - Recognizes an individual who has demonstrated excellence in the maintenance and operations of a NWT recreation facility, and/or has initiated programs and services that have made a significant contribution to recreation facility development and operations.  (2007 Winner - Kim Tybring, Hay River)

Active Living Award –Recognizes a community, organization, or individual in the NWT that has demonstrated a commitment to active living or health promotion in their community. Award recipients will be committed to supporting active lifestyles that contribute to healthy, vibrant communities.  (2007 Winner - Shane Brewster, Inuvik)

Student Leadership Award –Recognizes an NWT student graduating from any post secondary institution in the field of recreation, parks, or physical education, and who has made a significant contribution to recreation and parks services through their volunteer activities, work experience and studies.

Recreation Leader Award –Recognizes a community recreation leader who has consistently demonstrated the professionalism, skill and qualities outlined in the NWT Recreation Code of Ethics.  (2007 Winner - Kelly Noseworthy, Inuvik)

Parks and Environmental Leadership Award - Recognizes a community, organization, or individual in the NWT who has demonstrated positive leadership through the development or promotion of trails, parks or green-spaces. This award also recognizes leadership in the areas of outdoor or environmental education, research or advocacy.  (2007 Winner - Dave Fowler, Norman Wells)

Scott McAdam Youth Leadership Award – Recognizes a youth between the age of 15 and 24 for outstanding effort and contribution towards improving the quality of life of residents in their community through volunteerism, work experience and studies.  (2007 Winner - Josh McDonald, Inuvik)
