Pool and Waterfront Supervisors Needed

2008 Aquatic Season
Various Locations – NWT

Are you a self-motivated, mature, energetic person seeking a unique and challenging work experience during the summer of 2008? Various communities across the NWT require summer aquatic staff for both pool and waterfront programs. The season runs from approximately May 22nd to August 24th.

In total, there may be as many as 11 Pool Supervisor and 10 Waterfront Supervisor positions available in a variety of predominantly aboriginal communities, ranging in population from 200 to 2000.

Duties include administering/ teaching Red Cross and LifeSaving Society programs, lifeguarding, program planning, and some regional events such as swim meets. A major emphasis will be placed on assisting with local leadership training, and the promotion and education of boat and water safety.

To apply, you will need the following documents:

  • A letter of application, stating your interest in either the pool or waterfront positions;
  • A current resume;
  • Clear copies of current certifications. Copies must be readable and clearly show expiry date;
  • An indication of any re-certifications you anticipate completing prior to this aquatic season; and
  • Three references.

Required Certification:

  • Red Cross Water Safety Instruction and/or Royal Lifesaving Instructor;
  • Bronze Cross;
  • First Aid and CPR; and
  • Minimum 17 years of age.

  • Red Cross Instructor-Trainer Status
  • NLS Pool or Waterfront Options
  • Pool Operator Level 1
  • Lifesaving Society Examiner
  • Playground/Recreation Certification
  • Lifesaving Society Instructor-Trainer Status

Required Experience
Credit will be given for up to three (3) full years of instructing and lifeguarding. Waterfront staff must have a general recreation programming experience. Pool Staff must have pool start-up, shutdown and maintenance experience. Prior experience in an isolated or norther setting would be an asset.

Compensation
All transportation and accommodation is provided by the community. Salary varies by community and will be determined during the interview and job offer period. Interested applicants should apply to the Northwest Territories Recreation and Parks Association who will work directly with the communities to evaluate and hire staff.

Closing Date:
There is no set closing date. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply early. Early applicants will be given the highest priority. All applicants received will be reviewed on a monthly basis to select applicants for interviews. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted. All applicants must be available for the full period of employment.
