The On the Land (OTL) Leaders Network grew out of a round table organized by the NWTRPA in February 2016 for people working in the field of land-based programming, broadly defined. Twenty-six people representing each of the regions in the NWT came together at the Yellowknife Ski Club to discuss the rewards and challenges of facilitating on the land activities. This group then worked to identify concrete actions that will increase the capacity of leaders and organizations to deliver culturally relevant, safe, and meaningful land-based programs.
At present, the network supports on the land leaders through information and resource sharing. Other priorities identified during the meeting include training, advocacy, research, and resource development.
Monthly newsletters and bi-weekly tea and talks are just two ways that the organization is working to connect and support on the land leaders. A second meeting of on the land leaders is being organized in conjunction with the NWTRPA annual conference, taking place in Yellowknife September 27-29, 2016.
