June Get Active Grants Update
Given current GNWT public health directives, the NWTRPA has made the difficult decision not to offer June Get Active grants this year. However, we are looking into other options that would allow us to support community recreation in a way that is more appropriate for our current reality.
June Get Active grants are usually offered in recognition of June is Recreation and Parks Month, with applications opening in May. In previous years, community organizations have been encouraged to apply for funds to organize and deliver a physically active community event in the month of June. As you may know, the spread of COVID-19 has made large community gatherings and events unsafe at this time.
However, the benefits of recreation are no less important, and we are looking for other ways to help people get moving this spring.
The NWTRPA remains committed to supporting communities across the territory in accessing recreation opportunities and the many benefits they bring to our communities and community members.
We will be announcing more details very soon, so stay tuned!
Please note: This announcement only impacts June Get Active grants. We will review the Winter Get Active program in the fall.
