2016 Conference Wrap UpThe 2016 NWTRPA & Youth Centres Conference wrapped up
last week and we are glad to say it was an absolute success.
The Conference was the biggest event the NWTRPA has ever hosted with over 180 registrations. But there are still a few things that must be wrapped up.

NWTRPA’s 2016 Award
Every year the NWTRPA honours people from
across the NWT for their continuing efforts and achievements in promoting recreation and active living for all Northerners. This year four individuals were honoured.

2016 AGM Updates

At last week’s AGM there were a couple of important updates:

  • the NWTRPA membership voted to endorse the
    Truth and Reconciliation
    (TRC) Calls to Action and adopt
    the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous
    Peoples (UNDRIP) as a framework for future activities.
  • Caren Burke was elected as the new Sahtu Regionial Director.

The Canadian Parks and Recreation Association
is pleased to announce the launch of the Framework
for Recreation in Canada 2015 Implementation portal.
This portal will be home to resources that support implementation
of the Framework within your organization.

Be An Arctic Inspiration
Prize Ambassador 

Arctic Inspiration Prize Ambassadors are critical to make
the AIP known in the North. Their responsibilities include:
Spreading the word about the Prize, finding teams/projects,
serving as the official nominator for a team, vouching for the project’s quality, and if they become Finalists or Laureates, celebrating together with them.
