Over 80 events in 27 communities happened during June is Recreation and Parks Month 2017!

Left to Right, Top to Botton: Bike Rodeo in Norman Wells, Get Wet For Water Safety in Inuvik, Interactive Inuit Games in Yellowknife and Baby Fit & Play with Family Swim in Yellowknife.

Wooo… Well, that was fun. June is (was) Recreation and Parks Month (JRPM) and it was packed with fantastic events organized by amazing recreation leaders in communities across the NWT. And we’re not just talking about a group walk here or a free yoga session there. Get Active funded over 75 events in 27 communities during JRPM, and those events came in every shape and size.

June is Recreation and Parks Month events saw NWTers shining up their kayak skills in Fort Smith, running in track and field events in Lutsel K’e, cleaning up local parks in Inuvik, learning different cultural dances in Tsiigehtchic, and doing fitness bingo in Yellowknife. Seniors events included High Tea in Yellowknife, Gardening With Elders in Inuvik and Honour Our Elders Day in Lutsel K’e.

Thanks to everyone that made these fantastic events happen, and thanks to everyone that took part! For more information on June is Recreation and Parks Month, visit our JRPM page.
