It’s back to school season and we have a LOT of great trainings coming up this September, including Fitness Leadership training—we can’t wait to see you there! Don’t rush out to buy your school supplies though, grab a cup of coffee or tea and read on to find out the who, what, where, when, and why.


Hay River AFLCA Aquatics Specialty Course


Who: This course is for anyone interested in leading water-based fitness programming in their community. There are no pre-requisites to this course!

What: This course is the second step in becoming a certified fitness leader with AFLCA, but it is also for anyone interested in aquatics fitness programs. Course topics include: use of equipment, pool organization, principles of water, effects on body movement, safety in the water environment, use of music, and special populations.

Where: Hay River Aquatics Centre

When: September 13-15, 2019

Why: If you’d like to lead quality water-based exercise programs in your community, this course will give you the skills you need. If you’re also interested in becoming a certified fitness leader, this is your second step to getting certified! Once you have completed the exercise theory course and exam, you’ll need one of the specialization courses, like this one. For more information on the certification process, click here.


A minimum of 5 people must be fully registered by 4:00pm on September 6th for this course to take place, so don’t delay!


Yellowknife AFLCA Exercise Theory Course


Who: This course is for anyone who is interested in learning more about the theory of exercise or interested in becoming a certified fitness leader.

What: This course is the first step in becoming a certified fitness leader, and will cover topics such as anatomy, physiology, movement mechanics, training and conditioning, nutrition, leadership and health, and fitness. The full course is 16 hours and has an exam at the end of the training. The course will consist of two 8-hour days of classroom learning with some exercise-based activities.

Where: 3rd Floor Boardroom of the Don Cooper Building, Yellowknife

When: September 20-22, 2019.
