The NWTRPA supports a variety of courses for those wishing to become exercise leaders. The following are the courses supported by the NWTRPA.
This is the first step in becoming AFLCA certified is a 24 hour course that covers topics including: anatomy, physiology, movement mechanics, training and conditioning, nutrition, leadership and health and fitness. This course involves an exercise theory exam.
Once you have passed the exercise theory exam, you can participate in one of the specialization courses. These specialty courses include: resistance training (20 hours), aquatics (20 hours), older adult fitness (20 hours) and group exercise fundamentals (12 hours) with a designation course that could include one of the following (Click on each course for more details):
Note: Each designation is 8 hours except mind body which is 16 hours. Each specialty course includes an exam.
This course teaches participants about CPR and choking procedures and may include the importance of early defibrillation and how to use an Automatic External Defibrillator. This is a 5 hour course.
